Anyone want to voice there concerns over Tony Robinsons views on metal detecting which appeared on Countryfile last night, here is a link to the BBC. If enough of us write in, they will have to investigate our complaints.

Well there was nothing new or shocking from Mr Robinson, same old same old. As for training well I've been detecting for 32 years so if they feel they can teach me something ...bring it on, and licences well we have been there before so no great shakes.
Now if they would like to bring in licences to cull nighthawks, well.......I'll be the first in the queue.

sorry but the head of the NCMD, whos supposed to be representing us, didnt do a very good job

all they went on about was the money, surely he should of said that we dontt do it for the cash but for the history of the finds

the people that do nighthawking  wont conform to licences and the like ,its the reputable metal detectorists who obey the rules that will incur all the red tape bullshit.
if it wasnt for a lot of detectorists whom have reported there finds ,a lot of the historic heritage would still be in the ground rotting, information gleaned from these finds has put new perspectives on the history in that area

I just watched it on the BBC i player tonight.Julia bradbury, thank you very much.I think she said something like"...Earlier in the show we were investigating the detectorists making millions selling their valuable finds" Unbelievable.Another pearl of wisdom from Baldrick was "I fear within ten years, Britains' first foot of soil will be completely stripped of artifacts"Seems to me you can only have an interest and an input in history and archaeology in this country if you have been down the university route.I'm sure finds from detectorists have enabled many new sites to be explored that would never had been discovered otherwise.I've got to say though, in my opinion it was not all anti-detectorist,it could have been worse. Can't see how licences will stop nighthawking either.
