I joined Roman Ray, Pipster and six horses today for a brief swing in what can only be described as arctic conditions! We were only 15 minutes from Cardiff, but snow was in the air, on the ground and on our coils much to my suprise. The good thing about the snow though was it was easy to see where you had been and where the others had walked - natures version of GPS tracking.

The first find of the day fell to Pipster in the shape of a 1928 sixpence - his first silver of the year - well done that man! We all busied ourselves with pre-decimal coppers - I ended up with eight all together and I think Pip and Ray had about the same.

Ray also managed to produce a few nice buckles and a little cock. His lead cockrel I originally thought when he told me about it may have been a "shy cock" from ye olde game of throwing stones at lead cockrels, but when I got to see it I realised it was a tad more modern - still a nice find though.

The snow was getting a bit on top by about 2pm and I decided to head home to the warmth of my home, with the others leaving not long after.

Thanks for the invite guys - really good to catch up with you both and I think its the first time Ray amd I have been detecting without one of us finding a ring! Maybe next time Ray.

cheers
Neil

Ray is that you kneeling down in the pic with the horses? What is it with you and animals...they just love you, your the DW version of Snow White. Remember that site near Chepstow when the rabbits were playing around you? I swear if you started telling a story, all the little animals and birds would appear and sit down to listen.
