Here is the pic I took of the Stater from the Ludlow Rally. If all the Info is correct it is a Gold Stater of the Dobunni tribe from the Iron Age. It is only the Tenth version of this coin known and is thought to date from around 1AD to 45 AD and is the furthest west one has been found. It is I believe called a EISV Stater Spink number 381. Herefordshire has long been a void on the Iron Age map when it has come to which tribe claimed the lands and this and the other Stater firmly place the Dobunni in North Herefordshire. This will excite Historians and Archaeologists more than you will imagine so Nice one all. Together with the Terret Ring I would expect more to be found on our return to Ludlow so well done again folks for literally changing history.

Paul do you mean there have only been 10 found in that area? as this is not an uncommon stater. Van Arsdell puts the date between 15 and 30 AD.

Yes Chef. the rest are down near Ariconium the Roman settlement near Ross on Wye. 30 miles to the South. The date I give are from Herefordshire contexts of the Stators found. One copper Alloy one was found of Watling Street near Dilwyn about ten miles south.
