Sorry, but looks to be one side of a broken shoe buckle. The hole is where a iron  pin would have transversely the buckle.

Still a nice find.

Thanks both the patterns are symmetrical but the end has broken on one side i measured it at 5cm. If  complete it would have been 6 cm.

I agree with Neil - fragment of a shoe buckle. Copper alloy rather than iron.
