Hi everyone. Has anybody sent any items/images to Laura FLO for Somerset in the past months say since March this year in order for her to upload to PAS? Just that she has been putting things up on there that has been found and recorded by her months after the items I have submitted!? I know she is always busy but still. It gets to the point where you say to yourself what's the point in recording finds. And I have 'reminded' her a few times, so I don't want to get annoying.

Hi Jon, the website is still being moved over so many items that Laura has recorded are there but just haven't been promoted to "public". If you have the items back and you have a record number then the item has been recorded. Why not ask her if you can self record? that way you access your records immediately Wink.

I have thought of that as well, but does she or others check and verify etc? I mean I have no idea what the objects are or how old they are, so will they still investigate it?

Yes, if you can Photograph it to their quality, which going by your past finds you can, measure it, weigh it and answer as many questions in the recording section as you can, then Laura will do the rest. And don't worry about getting things like coins or brooches id's wrong as all the records are checked and verified before they are promoted to the PAS database.
If you haven't decided by the next time we meet up I'll bring a computer and show you the procedure Wink

Thanks for all your feedback Chef, strangely enough I have provided all info with the finds I have submitted to her, it's only like 5-6 things, pictures, gps, weight, size etc. But perhaps me uploading that will make the difference. When we catch up one day you can show me how it's done. Cheers, Jon.

If it helps, maplins recently had a set of small scales on offer for around £15.

Laura attends Yeovil MDC nearly every month and is regularly fed objects for id or recording. She has always been prompt with their return, which is nearly always the next meeting. If she has reason for a delay, or if she is going to miss the next meeting then she will always let members know in advance. However, delays are usually few and far between. It may be best that you give her a quick ring as I am sure there must be a good reason.

I don't think Jon is saying that Laura's taking a long time to record them, just the gap between recording and being available to view on the database. As I like many others self record it does seem that as the information is there then it takes the pressure of the FLO's to actually record them immediately as there main focus would be to get the finds from the general public and clubs done first as they have to be returned by a certain time, so our finds are added when and if they have time, which is fine by me. I can see the point of what you are saying. It could be the meaning of my post wasn't clear. I was mainly trying to  get across to Jon that she is normally very thorough and prompt in all aspects of her role. If there is a delay, then there is probably good reason, a likely one being what you have pointed out yourself.
