Hi All,

I thought I would share this find I had cleaned, I actually have two of them but this one is the only one photographed. It is an Iron Key and an accidental find! I'm not meant to be digging up iron, but for some reason my etrac plays trics on me, or the iron does on my etrac, and I tend to dig up decent iron finds. Hopefully you will be able to see the video I made of before and after. Enjoy!

Probably the circular part of the key caused the signal. Any form of circle or semi-circle as in horseshoe does something to alter the signal stregnth.

I'm sure someone with the correct explanation of this phenomena will be along shortly.

I actually didn't clean it, was too afraid to do damage to it so had it sent away by somebody I know who knows what they doing and they did a very good job! So very sorry, can't answer on how it was cleaned.

'ysbytymike' is probably right, it is circular objects like horseshoes and these keys etc that I generally find, good point!

Does anyone have any detecting books on keys out there? Any ideas of a date? I assume this is about 400-500 years old but I would like somebody to tell me for certain if possible.

Here is the key in picture form.

Cheers, Jon
