found this yesterday,it came up in a field were i also had 20 victorian coins in a small area,i believe it to be a victorian match holder.i dug down about 8-10 inches and found the bottom half first, and walked off.after about 10 mins i thought to myself theres a head to this somewhere,so i went back and excavated the hole to fit the whole coil in,and down another 4 inches or so, low and behold the head popped out  Smiley

Lovely find.

I found a real live Owl two weeks ago that had fallen out of the nest. He's been looked
after at City Wildlife, Newport.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH  isn't he sweet. Grin Roll Eyes
I raised a baby Thrush years ago. She would run all round the house following you when she was hungry. I used to take her into the garden to play while I weeded and fed worms etc. and then one day she went and I didn't see her till the following year when she nested in the front garden and had her own babies which she brought to me. Well worth the 'trade marks' and the effort.

When I first saw it I thought it was a lump of wool that a sheep had shed. I nudged it with my foot and it moved!!!!

I then realised it was a few day old chick that had obviously fallen out of the nest about 15 feet above and there
was no way it's parent/s were going to get it back in as it had no feathers. Just a lump of fluffy down. If we'd have
left it, it would have surely have died as it was severely weakened.

We picked it up and it could barely open it's eyes. We 'phoned City Wildlife at Newport (they're on Facebook and are a registered charity) and they met us at McDonalds where they rehydrated it and it perked up quite a bit.

They've been looking after it and the picture you see is two weeks after being found.

City Wildlife Care at Newport do such a worthwhile job that we have decided to set up a monthly donation and raise
some money as an when able.

Have a look:
