Found this on the charity dig yesterday and at first I thought it was just a fob matrix but looking on the database it looks like it could be Roman!!! It matches one that is on there almost identical except mine is complete would be very gratefull if someone could confirm this,

Also would like to thank the organisers for one of the best digs I've attended in a long time and with great company and all for a great charity,  THANKYOU!!!

Nice find especially as it's whole, unfortunately these fit into two time periods...Roman and Post Medieval with very little difference between the two. Does the matrix survive? as it could come down to that. Undecided

Sorry Ceri - I am of the opinion that this is not Roman, and I am dubious of those ID'd as Roman on PAS to be honest.

I would say post-medieval, late 16th to 17th century. Can you get a better pic of the design of the matrix please?

Still a very nice find though  Smiley

This is the nearest I can find:

Great find Mrmayo I love the seals !! Have you took a wax impression yet? I found the best thing to use was a dark colour play-doh..... but if using blue tac go carefull I took the patina face straight off one before Cry
Here is one I found in the past with the same sort of handle as yours Smiley

Dip it in talcum powder first and blow off the excess, this prevents whatever your using from sticking Wink
