Hi, I had a plesant couple of hours on a new field today, and i came across this lead helmet / bell shaped thingy. it hollow, stands about 2" tall and 2" across the bottom. There's a hole in the top, and two slots, one either side, near the bottom. It's a fair old lump.

Any one seen anything like this before?

Thanks

Dave

Well, looks like i've beat the Doc...
It's a real thing of purpose, just not to sure what purpose.
Ah well, it will go in the lead bucket in the end, nothing like a bit of re-cycling.

Thanks

Well I finally ran the bell thingy past Peter our local FLO and he did give an ID for it. I'd never have guessed what it's for in a million years.
Apparently it's a cow's horn straightener. The thing slips over the horn and two leather straps are adjusted to put tension on the horn to pull it the right way !

Well there you go. A cow's horn straightener.  Easily fabricated from lead, to make you cow look good.....

Well done Dave, worth the effort. Now I'll know what it is when I find one. Grin
