Found this today.  :o

It's the most frightening metal object I think I've ever seen!     4 inches long.

It's got the head of a snake or possibly a dragon.

I have a feeling it's pretty old.

Any ideas?  ???

Thats interesting Bob! Reminds me of a sword guard - probably miles out though.

It certainly looks to have been fixed to something. Whats it made of?

What a fantastic find, looks like a handle? of some kind, well done  ;)

I think it's made of copper or some sort of copper alloy.

Makes a change from hammered coins!

Stylisticly I think it looks Oriental. I would guess it is a copy of something older but what it is I have not got a clue. It is in a good condition as well. Interesting and unusual find. Well done RJM one for the Doc I reckon.

first thought was drawer handle,maybe off a oriental piece 1800,1900,,,,i may be wrong but .....very nice it is.

The only thing I can find with a similar design on PAS database is shown below.

A handle off something I believe. As Paul said, probably a copy of an earlier Oriental object. I'm looking for a parallel.

I don't know, but the object is really evil looking. Gives me the creeps!!!

By the way,  the answer to the E Trac comp is somewhere between 1500 - 2000 miles. You need to know where
Alan lives (I do) and go back and see where the rallies were held (I haven't as I'm an XP convert and would give the stuff away!) and remember to include the return journey!

I'm confident it's not 666 but that number is no doubt connected to my find!!! It's horrible. I can't wait to give it to the FLO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D    ;)

Re the guess:   The question says "He drove down south to nine Rallys"

It specifically says YOU drove to 9 rallies.........

It doesn't say "travelled" which would include either you or someone else driving!!!

Fantastic find Bob, Roman or Celtic jug handle.

Difficult to see the thickness of it on the photograph but it looks way to thin to be a handle, I think Neil's suggestion of a hilt guard sounds the most likely but at only 4" it could be a bit tight.
Nice and unusual find though, whatever it turns out to be.

I can see that the fin at the back of the head would be for the thumb, and the body is about the

right length for four fingers, and the way it's curved would suggest it's a handle but not for

something heavy. 

The jug suggestion is the one I'd run with at the moment.
