Title: threshhold stability problems
Post by: earth24 on March 17, 2009, 07:51:32 PM
what does it mean when you can't get a threshhold tone on a minelab se or the tone is unstable and what do you do about it. does this affect the ability to search effectively although signals still register?

Welcome to the forum earth, I am sure the minelab experts have missed to see this one, I am sure that one will be along soon, haven't got a clue myself.

Just had a thought , put Minelab in the title that will reel 'em in.

hi earth.
well you are running the minelab in manual i take it.
ok first you can run the detecter in semi auto  but this doesn't always run a smooth threshold either.
if you repuire a threshold tone  that stays stable you will have to turn the sensitivity down .but remember that nulling occurs when you use discrimination and you pass iron this is normal in any settings.
unstable running is still ok but you need to change settings and get trained to do it properly.
if you like a day to go without hicups to start just use factory setting by holding down start for the tune to stop then release button you factory settings will then be ready to just detect .
this won't take you long to get used to  so you may change things to suit yourself.
hope it helps a little

hi richard
many thanks for the advice. i know that passing over iron will produce a nulling affect, but the other day i was in factory settings and i could not get any threshhold unless i stopped moving the coil. i dropped the sensitivity but no better. i have started to use a S.E.F.coil and wondered if that made the difference. ok i still made finds but i was just curious.
