Title: Wick field find
Post by: Meatslicer on August 31, 2010, 10:12:20 PM
Found these today in a field having sillage cut.

Cant work out what the oval decorated bronze thing is. Looks like spring attachments on the top and it is hollow, approx 6mm deep  and very thin and delicate.

Maybe a trumpet brooch head or just an amulet. no signs of a hinge attachment though.

I think it may be the remains of a fob seal, like this:

Two nice silvers anyway - you need to update your log at the bottom of your posts  ;)

Remains of is right, Unfortunately it was very deep (about 13 inches) and was resting on stones under clay. The silvers were the same distance down, one of them in the same hole as the copper halfpenny.

Back there early tomorrow, fingers crossed for something even better.

Nice to see the committee still meets ;)
