Hi folks

Any advice on this?  I have been exploring and comparing, what's the best to use.

ohh there will be a mixture of replies i expect,  lol.
 i prefere to use 2 ordinary 9 volts in mine though, they last me for over 35 hrs in my fisher they are the full 9 volts and the penlights in things 1.5 volts

 where as only 1.2 in the rechargables,  hmm come to think of it 9 volts rechargables wouldn't fit in my machine anyhow,  but in my other machine they discharge to quick for my liking.  and the A.A.A.s in my walkie talkies,  though my Duracel  recharchables  2650 mah. do last a lot lot longer, in everything,

Well I have used the same two sets Of Duracell NiMH rechargeables since I brought the first Minelab and they last me for two full detecting sessions (two days) with ease and power to spare. They show no sign of failing yet and I have a spare set unopened for the same period of time. As an experiment I used eight new AA bats not long after I bought my detector and had to change them after five hours. So I shall stick with my rechargeables.

As has been said rechargeable batts are the way to go, but try and get the highest mAH you can. Keep an eye out for the ones they sell in Lidl they are 2400mAH and are cheap. If your going to buy alkaline then go for Enegiser as they keep a higher mAH.

 some machines drain them quicker than others,  The red heat will last for only 2 hrs on the medium mah s.
 Duracel now has a stay charged one that should last a year they say,
 aof the ones iv'e tried , like Paul i love my Duracells,
 you can look around some batteries here when liddles haven't got them in,

rechargeable battery are good in a long run but time wise they last less than a normal batttery and when they go they go quick  so its 50/50 but if you go detecting a lot i will advice you rechargeable .

what about the extra energy boost/performance you get out of the non recharable batteries? any truth in this??

Slightly, that's why I said Energiser batts, they do have (according to Garys detecting) a higher charge, slightly more punch.

I Bought the High capacity AA Rechargeable batterys from Lidl and they hold more charge then my Duracel ones of the same AH.
I get 30 hours out of a fresh set in my Fisher but with all Rechargables the power drops very quickly so have a spare set to hand.

 I bought some from liddles a couple of years ago, but they couldn't have been the high capacity ones,  they don't last long at all,  2 hrs in my red heat, and not long in the cameras either,  the Durecel last for months in the cameras and walkie talkies,
