Title: Headphones Advice
Post by: Jonola (Jon) on March 12, 2009, 03:57:22 PM
Now I have bought a Minelab Quattro anyone any advice as to what headphones to buy? And any NOT to buy....and any other paraphenalia that I might need that I probably haven't even thought of yet.

Aaah the good old days of the 70s when I just had my C-Scope a trowel....and my youth!

My dad uses koss r95 headphones which were made for hi-fi's before anyone says that they should not be used for detecting we know although not cheap they were about £100 a few years back koss the nice company that they are give them a lifetime warrenty any fault and back they go in the 6 years he has had them they have only been returned once koss fitted a new headband and new cable outstanding service but you have to pay £5-00 p&p.

Hi Jon

Ive used a good few headphones over the years One of my favours where a pair of garretts
I bought a pair of Tony maz,s Big blues thinking they would work well with my Explorer
Id say my Koss headphones are 25% louder and better sound quality.

I know a lot of people dont like them coz there large and bulky but there nothing better to keep your ear lugs warm on a cold winters day lol

Good choice Jon Bargin mate!

all the best Phil Jones

Cheers for the info Phil. I will probably need an extension as I am quite tallish. They are better than my original idea of using the ones in My Sony Walkman! I was quite happy with the 33% online saving. Joanallen has already despatched them. Can't wait!

Hi Jon

You wont be sorry I,ll never buy anything else unless i find a pair that.ll blow my Koss,s out of the water

Well Im 5'6" and i use a bungee on my Explorer but i still find that when i lay my detector down to dig the lead pulls my headphones off my lug holes lol

I might have had one with a very short lead lol

all the best Phil

hi jonola drewy here i use a pair of hd 3030 headphones bought from maplins cost 16 quid found them to be excollent. The jack plug is small size so you will need large adapter jack plug to fit your quattro . Just a thought.

Thanks for the jack plug advice. I read somewhere on here that Koss were the ones to use with a minelab which is why I bought them. No one seems to have anything bad to say about them which is good. Well apart from the lead length that is ;D

Strange that the metal detecting mag adverts are selling them at £45 but the very same retailer is knocking them out on Ebay at £30.

The Koss ur30 are supplied as standard with Minelab machines and the sound is the best you can get. The only down sides are the cable length, they are not the best fit (ie they fall off easily) and no volume control. I butchered the pair i had and used the speakers in a pair of ear defenders and added 2 volume controls. I would like to try the Koss QZ99 as they look good.

Just to be paranoid for a moment, the UR30's are not listed by Koss (could be a special for minelab) but they do list a UR20 which look the same and have the same spec except they have a 3.5mm jack instead of the 6.4mm. Now for the paranoid bit they retail at only £13.99.

The specs on the Ur30 are better tan the Ur20. Impedance, sensitivity and better frequency response. Apparently the cable length on both is 8 feet.
