Hopefully The Doc will be able to shed some light on it - I had a browse on the net earlier today, but could not see anything close to it. Deb Title: Re: coin weight I.D. please Post by: The Doc on July 21, 2010, 08:12:22 PM This is not a coin weight, but may be a weight of some sort. It appears to read E FIDOE PLUMBER.
Edmond (or Edmund) Fidoe was a plumber at 25 Baldwin Street Bristol in the 1760s and 1770s, and I think this item relates to him, although I have no idea what it was used for. Title: Re: coin weight I.D. please Post by: zorro on July 22, 2010, 08:30:36 AM thanks peter. well if its not a coin weight then i have absolutely no idea what it could be?
the sides are straight, not tapered, so dont think it could be some sort of a brass bung. another for the U.F.O. file then. great piece of detective work on the name though all the same peter...many thanks. i'll break the "bad" news to steve. |
