Peter, anyone,

Did a couple of more pics on the off chance they may help date/id  the artifact.

Certainly looks very old and abraded. I've just looked at the PAS database and not found anything similar yet.

rob

is there any evidence of a pin attachment from the base of the rear hind legs?

or, is there evidence of a clip attachment [like a safety pin type] on the front legs base?

The back had a hole peteen each leg and I think a headed pin may have passed through the two securing it to a garment.

Only a guess? ::)

To me it just looks and feels Roman period. There are Iron Age Regional votive offerings found especially along the banks of the Severn (Forest Of Dean, Frocester up to Gloucester) where human crude female figurines with large buttocks are well recorded. I just feel this is another variation of a local Votive/ritual object from the Roman period similar to the Lydney Roman Dog. But of a much less fine, more cruder style.

This is the only votive figure I've ever found - Celtic/Roman man.
