Title: Buckle for I.D.
Post by: 150aceboy on May 10, 2010, 10:59:58 AM
Can anyone possibly I.D. a buckle i found yesterday, and give a rough age etc,  please.
The little bar on side swivels and even the tang still moves easily.
Thanks for your time
Ace  ;)

Paul in Ross Whithead's book "Buckles 1250-1800" there is a very similar one, page 89 no.554. under the heading
"Cast copper-alloy double loop rectangular buckles with drilled frames for separate spindles: c1350-1450"
hope this helps mate. nice find  ;)

Sorry Kev, posted on Josh's thread first.

The buckle is a medieval 'locking' buckle, dates 1350-1450, see here:

Thanks Pete, thats great news, my oldest find to date, i can see from the picture in the link ,the little piece i'm missing.
BTW the arm still swivels and the tang moves very easily, its in good condition considering its age.
