Title: If your not a member of a Detecting club, Join One !
Post by: PHIL YNYSBOETH on November 01, 2008, 11:09:20 AM
Hi all

Ive been Detecting 10+ years now But only recently have i been in the lucky position to be more active in this very interesting Hobby/Past time.

Joining a club is the 1st thing you should be thinking of even if you cant contribute fully the wealth of infomation and advice thats available is priceless theres always someone whos willing to show you the ropes.
If the club got a forum its a good idea to get chatting on there so you sort of know some members before you turn up (thats what i did )at a club meeting to a load of strangers wearing Camo lol

Before i joined a club i cant imagine what treasures ive thrown away thinking they was Rusty rubbish
I look at the websites and mags and i think ......Ive found one of those  :-[

So look thought the Club page on this forum and contact a local Detecting club i dont think youll be sorry you did !

Regards
Phil Jones

here here Phil,
Both yourself and the club can gain so much from it,
yeah and i think most people throw away what they think is rubbish at first only to find out later that it was something good,  doh,
take it all home for another day if your not sure,

i wanted for ages to find a musket ball, after a couple of years managed to find some, i showed them to a guy who i used to go out with and asked if they were musket balls,   yes he replied,  iv'e found hundreds, and threw loads away, their rubbish,  and threw mine into the bliddy hedge, ?????.
bliddy control freak,  i had to wait ages to find more, doh.

Alan,

Good one Phil,   but hey, be carefull  with washing lead,  it takes  the detail off it, a dry brush would be better if you don't mind me saying Phil.
see, were learning all the time from one and other hey,
 Cheers Now
Alan

Worth remembering Allan and Phil white lead is very toxic especially the dust,so if you do brush it off do it outside and try not to breath the dust in. ;)

Hi Simon

Good point mate!

All the bits of lead i find i give to the club (RARE) then it gets wieghed in to add to club funds

I wash the mud and crud off with running water as you say can it be harmful.

regards

Phil Jones

Most of the lead I find I tend to melt down and turn into fishing weights for my other passion of Sea Angling.

It save me a fortune & I also normally sell quite a lot at car boot sales in the summer so everyones a winner  ;)
