Title: update on Beachboys hammered
Post by: zorro on February 26, 2010, 03:56:19 PM
heres an update on the hammered found by Beachboy at DW rally last sunday 21st Feb.
link from ukdfd.co.uk  database verified by Rod Blunt and Nigel Nicholson.
think it raises more questions than answers;
A quarter noble bearing the titles of (?) Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy (1363-1404) and Count of Flanders (1384-1404), but the arms of England.
Possibly an imitation and of uncertain date. (?) Cast.

...and still not validated fully yet. I've been having a good look around the web as well and not found anything similar. Philip the Bold minted quarter nobles which look very similar but have the quartered arms of France and Burgundy rather than the arms of England.

agree peter its not fully validated. never mind it makes the coin quite interesting from an historical point of view, if not valuable.

Hi Kev. I don't know if you've checked UKDFD today, but Rod is asking if you can provide an accurate weight for the coin?

yes peter had email off Rod. My dad took coin to 2 jewellers this morning they both weighed coin at 1 gram. have sent email back to Rod confirming this.
many thanks for your help, seems to have a few people stumped this one.
