Hi guy
As some of you might be aware My 9yr and myself, a very old 9 yr old kid have started the hobby, we bought the Garrett 250 and it arrived yesterday so Keegan wants to have a bash tonight along the beach, i have been looking but i have either not seen anything or i am just blind, are you allowed to detect on common land and foot paths.

Thanks

First and foremost mate is dont start to feel danted or intimidated by the permission seeking !  Try the beach mate its an excellent place to start practicing with the garret.... Any footpaths near you mate ? if so, do they go through farmers fields or woodland ? Just pop along and ask the farmer if you can have a go along the path mate it works for me  ;) The majority of my coins have come from public footpaths mate .... including wooded areas .

Thanks guys
I am meeting a farmer tomorrow, who has given me the go ahead, so all we are doing is going to introduce ourselves and promote the hobby.
thanks

Best of luck with it  mate,,  refering to the footpaths though a lot of people think that as they have a right  to walk the footpaths  they have the right to detect there along them too,  you haven't,  unless you have prier permision from the landowner,
Alan

Aren't you supposed to get a permit for detecting on the beach, in some areas anyway, something to do with foreshore?
I also understood you could get these just via email?!?!?  :o

I am new to this so could be talking complete rubbish  ;D

I,ve detected on Southerndown beach for years now, and nobody said anything
to me about it. In the warmer weather, all you do is pay the parking attendant
and walk onto the beach. Who has ever been told they can,t detect there???

I am not saying I am correct, as it is not very often I am, and it obviously isn't very well policed if so.

Just found this to do with Crown Estates, again maybe barking up the wrong tree all together.

hi wombles ;D, i would be interested to hear how you get on with the garret 250, as we have 3 new juniors started in our club, and that machine type kept on popping up by other users, as a good machine to start with, for adults and juniors alike. you  should also start to think about ,insurance, if you are going to detect farm land, or any public places." public liability cover" there are a few to be had, and they only cost a few  quid. TWO i know of are   F.I.D.  OR    N.M.C.D. any one on this site will point you in the right direction. should you need any help good luck on your  first outing  mickycoin  mick ;D ;D

hi Ian, i am personally a member of F.I.D., and have been since i needed insurance. i think it would be unfair to  compare one against the other as i have only ever used F.I.D,  it is also local, so i have never realy needed to change over, fast and friendly service, as no doubt others are. im sure after you have asked the question" witch one", other members will give you there views, so i think its sit back and make your own mind up, mickycoin mick ;D ;D

think mick has said it all really. compare each organisation , predominantly F.I.D. or N.C.M.D. see which suits you best. if your in a club ask some of the members. cost is pretty nominal for either .

Is there an online registration service for either yet? I think it's about time they gave us this option. Cheques are on the way out. Paypal and other services are the way forward.
