Title: RAF Benevolent Bell!
Post by: Neil on December 14, 2009, 11:22:21 PM
Thanks for adding this section Geoff - I'll get the ball rolling.

This is an RAF Benevolent fund bell produced at the end of the Second World War to financially aid widows of the RAF who had been injured in action. they were made from shot down German aircraft.

Theres a bizarre story as how I came to own this. Where I lived in Cardiff as a child there was a huge conker tree behind my house and I got my football stuck in the V of the tree. Dad went up to get the ball with the aid of a triple ladder and came down with this bell. With hindsight I think someone else must have got their ball also stuck up the tree and perhaps threw the bell up to try and bring it down, but the bell got stuck!

The pictures on the side are Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin!
