Title: Any idea is this a Ring or something else? Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on December 13, 2009, 11:48:36 AM Hi there , out with Roman Ray on Friday and we both had a load of pre decimals ect. I came up with what i thought was a copper olive. That was until I cleaned it. There seems to be a Gold gilding and patterning on it. Showed it to my brother yesterday and he thinks maybe its a gas lamp control.
ps looking at the second pic would seem to show the ring shape has a flange inside.....It doesnt though thats a shadow. Title: Re: Any idea is this a Ring or something else? Post by: 150aceboy on December 13, 2009, 11:51:54 AM Hi Rob, your brother could be right mate, but i'm with you on this one, looks very much like a ring to me fella, especially with the gilding, which can clearly be seen, nice find Rob, well done.

nice find, my observations are, smooth inside, a perfect circle shape, milled edge exterior, i'm not convinced in your brothers suggestion - i'm happy to go with the idea of a ring, probably anytime from the industrial revolution -- so maybe victorian/edwardian. take it along to a local jewellers and ask them for an opinion cheers alan Title: Re: Any idea is this a Ring or something else? Title: Re: Any idea is this a Ring or something else? Post by: Chef Geoff on December 13, 2009, 01:50:47 PM Hate to be a kill joy but I think I would have to go with your brother on this one, It looks far to small even for a childs finger and gilding wouldn't last to long on a ring.
Title: Re: Any idea is this a Ring or something else? Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on December 13, 2009, 02:11:28 PM Yeah Geoff it doesnt feel right fella thats why I'm a little confused. Fits my daughters little finger though and the gilding is inset so it may have been protected ???
Title: Re: Any idea is this a Ring or something else? Post by: handyman [Alan} on December 13, 2009, 05:50:46 PM rob, the cricket picture is an early one - probably early 19 century. the clues for this is the shape of the bat - like an irish hurley, and the bowler is bowling underarm.
pictures fof cricket games from 1700s show this type of bat. the 3 wkts didn't come into being until 1774. further info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cricket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cricket) cheers Title: Re: Any idea is this a Ring or something else?
