A change from the hammered puzzle. A mystery object for you to puzzle over. This is 4cm tall. Who wants to have a guess - or maybe someone will spot what it is straightaway?

If I found it I'd say it was a finial. and if someone from Time Team found it they'd say it was ritual....Does it have a purpose or is it decorative?

It is from the Far East but not China Rob. I think it is meant to be a dragon.

Is it for crushing opium poppies to get the resin out of them then? Just a guess never tried it myself mind as that would probably be illegal!

Traditionally called opium weights, they were probably used for weighing all sorts of items in Burmese markets. This one dates from the 18th century.
