here are a few more found earlier this month. note the top right and middle right are the reverse sides of the coins posted above.

i do like the romulus and remus imagery, with the wolf suckling twins. [the fragment next to it is also the same obverse].

the radiates are from 250 to 300ad, but i am awaiting further I.d. from the FLO later this month.

enjoy the pics --

cheers

in the opening post, there is a small trapezoidal button on the left hand side. i am now pleased to identify it as 17th century - which makes it a lovely find.

reference detecting finds book 1.

3 days later -- 3 fragments of fibula, found in a field which produced the buttons above, all within 10 square metres of each other.

the top one in the piccy is a very unusual shape -- any comments welcome.

cheers

1649 - 1660   [spink 3223].

1st hammered in ages!!

also found out that in the previous pic, the top object is a trumpet brooch.

..as long as it takes me to find a place down there!!!!!!

the roman mintmark TT is of a place called Ticinum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticinum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticinum)

the coin has travelled a long way!

well, we managed 90 minutes on a local field on boxing day, very disappointing really, only got this one minim, probably barberous [for newbies that means a copy, or imitation].

still, it took some finding bearing in mind how small it was!

happy hunting everyone

well, 1st time out this year, i get nothing in the 1st hour and then 6 finds in the next half hour.  5 coins all roman and what i think is a coin weight with a hand design.

anyway, enough to keep me going on researching what and who they are tonight.

enjoy them

cheers

Nice finds Alan - and well done on the "dirty photo". Makes the working day go quicker! ;)

I think the weight may be an Apothacry Weight (not the usual ohm symbol though) - very similar in design though.

Nice finds
Neil

The weight looks very unusual - not seen anything like it before. Will be interesting to see what the FLO says.

well at our club meeting tonight, we had a guest speaker from the BM. when i showed the object, the excitement was obvious to all. the object is to go down to the BM [via the FLO]. it could be a coin weight for gold aureus.

will keep u informed.
