Title: Any saxon finds in wales?
Post by: hedgehog on January 14, 2009, 11:01:48 AM
Just looking at Phil's find and wondering whether (excluding North Wales :)) there are any finds from the saxon period, I have found it slightly frustrating in the past. Roman can be found but after that period the oldest coin I have found has been a Henry 11 penny and the oldest artefact has been Norman.

I was with JayDogg when he had a bit of Saxon from the Vale. Rare as hens teeth in South Wales.

Hi,    am i the Postman you are talking about?, if so you are correct I have found Saxon in the Vale, also Viking, but they are few and far between.
Your best chance in the Vale is either Penllyn, Cowbridge or Monknash, you might find items in other places but these places have turned up quite a few coins and artefacts from these periods over the past few years.

Regards,

Steve.
