Post by: PHIL YNYSBOETH on January 13, 2009, 04:16:08 PM
Hi all anyone got any idea what this it ? I found it last week in natural woodland

Its similar to an anglo saxon strap end ive seen in last months Searcher but not sure due to its size (must have been small belt )

Thanks a lot in advance

Are there any fixing points on it, or any marks on the back that would suggest it had been attached to something? By the pic it looks like a more recent object, what is the thickness of it? Lots of questions I know Phil but it is an intriguing find.

Hi Steve

It looks has if it had 2 holes where youd expect them to be on a strap end but no marks i can see on the back, The rest of th item has corroded away past the mounting holes id say is about as think as the card of a ciggy box

regards Phil

Difficult one, looks as if it represents a fish from the photo, but is very thin for a saxon one , 13th to 15th century perhaps? I am probably way out but it's a nice find.

I looked at it Phil and it is a puzzle but do you think it might be part of a spoon handle?
