Title: How many detectors have you had, what were they?
Post by: hedgehog on January 06, 2009, 06:18:06 PM
Just sitting and thinking about the detectors I have had over the years (Hell it's been 26 since my interest was first aroused!). I started detecting when someone showed me a coin made of silver (hammered) no bigger than a shirt button, money to spend has always been an important factor but this is the list, most were second hand but not the first and not the most recent.
C Scope 650
C Scope 750
Fisher 1266X
Minelab Tribune
Minelab Musketeer
Tesoro Tejon
Teknetics T2

Which way did you go?

Hi All

I started detecting 10+ years ago and in that time ive had 3 Detectors

Garrett Treasure ace
Minelab Advantage Pro
Minelab Explorer 11

I loved the Garrett but wanted something with more depth and better disc.
I loved the advantage but couldnt get on with the weight.
I Bought an Explorer because my club (RARE) has an high percentage of Explorer owners and i wanted to fit in so i bought one lol.
Im glad i did, even thought its taken me over a year to learn the machine and get the best out of it.
Im never going to complain about the weight of the Explorers after reading the artical in this month searcher (The cover story ) If an 80 year old lady do it so can I lol

All the Best Phil Jones

Good Topic

My first detector was a Viking my granpy bought for me in 1977. Good little machine, but times were hard then and I could never afford the batteries.

Jump forward to 2OO4 and I bought a Chinese import off a person at a boot sale for a tenner. Promptly drove to Barry Island Beach and found a gold ring, which still amazes me to this day as its depth is about 3 inches. That was me hooked.

Next came and X-Terra3O, followed by a Minelab Muskateer and then an Explorer II.

I wonder what will be next?

Neil

I can still remember the "Buzz" i got when i bought my very first detector second hand ! It was the coin Probe.
A BFO detector that you just switched on , set the threshold ,and away you went. It let off a Continuous humm and when louder if you went over any metal what so ever.
You couldn`t get any more basic than this.
It probably only went about three inches deep even , but the fun i had finding coins in those early days was fantastic.
I`d always wanted one since seeing then for sale at the back page of the Marvel & DC comics from America. , you know the ones, Superman, Captain America, Green lantern, Flash ,and Atom. On the back page there was a Adverts in tiny boxes depicitating what they were selling. In one there was always a Metal detector (which we in those days didn`t have at all) It was that that started me off and when i saw this metal detector in the shop window i had to have it. I gor the £14 they were asking for it and went to the second hand shop as fast as i could. I then had my real live Metal detector i had always seen in the comics IN MY HAND .
It went from there basically. And so here i am nearly 40 years later STILL doing it.

Hi Paul.
How ya doin ?
I bet you have forgotten to put a few down.
I did when i started listing the ones I`ve had ,but when i posted them i had to re open my post to edit it and put some I`d forgotten about in.
there is one particular Pulse detector i had which made a beautiful Sound on hitting a target. I can never remember its name though . I think it had about 6 U2 battery's in it. You fed them into a tube like you would a shotgun multi loader.
Ah well its long gone now!

1976ish CScope BFO50
1977ish CScope IB100

Long gap of no detecting

2002 White's Classic III
2003 White's DFX
2007 Fisher F75

I still have the last 4, althought the CScope is next to useless now (thinking back it probably was when it was new as well).

C scope 660
Minelab something ?
Minelab Quattro  (which i love)

The Quattro is showing signs of age now but my finds have improved probably 100% with it. If I do get a new one I will probably get a explorer 2 (Possibly). I don,t find the Minelab,s heavy and love my Quattro. I might even keep it as a backup machine.

My first machine was a Micronta that my mother brought beck from holiday for me, total rubish but it gave me the bug, that was in 1975. I quickly followed that with:-
whites beachcomber 5
whites coinmaster 5
compass (something) lovely machine
fisher 1265x, found loads
bounty hunter
Tessorro eldorado, another lovely machine
whites spectrum (I'm still confused)
fieldmaster, it did what it said on the box
Minelab sovereign, x3
and now I have a garrett seahunterII, still have a sovereign elit and the Etrac....

The old fishing saying that "New tackle catches more fishermen than fish" i think might apply to me.

C-Scope in the late 1970s. No idea what it was but found a lot with it for what it was. Probably more stuff still in the ground in those halcyon days.

C Scope 660. Found more wit this than anything else.

Minelab Sovereign.   Didn't have it long enough to form an opinion.

Minelab Quattro.  First impressions are good although I'm already looking for something new.

C-Scope in the 70's

White's Coinmaster 5000D (70's)

White's Coinmaster 6000D (70's)

White's XLT (90's)

White's MXT

White's DFX

XP Goldmaxx Power

As you can see, I like White's machines lol.

Richy.
