sorry lads I didn't realise - the general verdict is "Flippin eck - thats a beauty"

Roman seems to be the consensus so far.

I'm hoping for a more accurate date for Phil.

Glad you are keeping it Phil. some members on the other site are wondering if it was a pasture find? I think it was wasn't it?

145 people have viewed it in just over an hour! The unanimous verdict is that it is absolutely stunning.

Find of the year in my book!

Thats interesting Phil - Someone on the other site has kindly posted a similar item - but no where near as complete as yours. The end bit is vaguely similar though.

Off out for a few ales in Cathedral Road now and yet another wedding do tomorrow night - I am driving to this one, so I'll be nice and sober for Sunday.

I was wondering if it is 12th century Romanesque ?  I think i saw something similar a few years back but it was it terrible condition. Problem is as with all fashion, things tend to repeat themselves.

It should be on public display. Just don't donate or it could be gone a few years down the line !

Title: Re: Phils stunning Roman buckle find!
Post by: StumbledUpon on August 01, 2009, 08:18:32 PM
The article is in the August issue, the buckle could be continental, or a unique Romano-British  variety, Markie will be able to tell you, the "ring and dot" design was used in roman times and I think its definately roman. :)

Oh, for those that don't know its going to be gracing the cover of Treasure Hunting magazine, with a follow up article in the News & Views section and yours tuely gets to interview Phil tomorrow for them.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Phil , don,t give it as a competition prize. It really
needs to be on display where it will be seen by future generations.IF you want to
give it up, let the Museum have it.   Digger ( Stan )
