Title: Any Ideas on this? Post by: rjm on July 30, 2009, 11:22:58 AM Found this on an old site with my GM3. Looks like it is probably a machined object, but can't think what it's for. It's about 1.5 inches long and half inch wide.
Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: Neil on July 30, 2009, 11:46:35 AM Stair rod holder Bob. For keeping carpet attached to the stairs. Vicky to now. I had one many moons ago and was convinced it was ancient - sadly I was proved wrong!
Cheers Neil Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: Neil on July 30, 2009, 12:59:58 PM I am sure it is Millsy - my gran used to have them. If I remmber the carpet is laid on the stairs as a runner with wood showing either side. The rod goes at the base of each step and is held in place by one of these items. Its tacked to the wooden step via the hole and the point bites either into the carpet or the wood.
I am sure thats what it is - but I have been wrong before. Hope I am wrong as I have about 10 of the things in my scrap box! This is the closest comparisson I can find. Have a look right at the end where the fixing is to the stairs. Not right or the same, but you get the idea cheers Neil Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: Neil on July 30, 2009, 01:30:10 PM How about the point gets hammered/ tapped into the verticle bit of the stair into the wood, the rod goes through the hole and the small hole if nailed to the base of the floorboard. Repeat either side holding the carpet in place.
Neil Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: handyman [Alan} on July 30, 2009, 01:32:11 PM i recall seeing something similar in my grandma's house, but it was to fix a curtain rod. The pointed end was uppermost, to add 'effect' to the heavy duty curtains.
Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: rjm on July 30, 2009, 01:47:21 PM Thanks for the suggestions, Neil and Millsy. Didn't mean to casue a domestic.
So it's a medieval stair rod then! LOL The suns come out so I'm gonna get an hour of bleeping in. Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: mickycoin "mick" on July 30, 2009, 02:47:21 PM hi all im 99% certain its part of an old" GIN TRAP" that part was the piece that triggered the small plate, once the rodent had put its foot on it, its a much smaller version of the trap they use for bears, beaver etc sorry i havent a photo of one, but one will turn up knowing this forum nice little find mick

Post by: Gadget(Ian) on July 30, 2009, 07:49:35 PM guy's i think it is a giude rail from a electric fence i have found a few of these if you look at the hole there is a large chamfer in it not to chaf the wire.if it was a stair rod holder there would be no need for this lead in.

Post by: hedgehog on July 31, 2009, 09:18:18 AM You are right it's about time the "old " thinking was challenged on this Millsy, if you remember I posted one up a while back because I don't believe they are off stair rods either. I must say for a "young" chap Neil is very set in his opinions and maybe needs to open his mind a little ;D
A Question, you only find one or two occasionally in a field, what happened to the other 20 odd? Title: Re: Any Ideas on this? Post by: hedgehog on July 31, 2009, 02:45:46 PM I was thinking maybe it is off a piece of furniture that would have a small rod on as a hanging rail for something, that brought me to the conclusion that it may be a hanging rod off a washstand or something of that nature!
