Sorry Charles, don't know what you mean - how many different coin designs there are or how many in total were minted? ???

I have no idea either way, but if you want me to ID a Trajan coin please post it in this section.

John,
Don't foget that books such as Seaby's and Spinks are not official identity books. they only show what they have for sale.

There are plenty of books around that specialise in idendifying coins to the full. One that springs to mind is Richard Reece's "Roman Coins", even that one does not give them all because there are always new 'varieties' coming up all the time, especially in hoards.
My question was really meant to ask how many types were minted rather than the quantity. I fear is that I did not ask clearly enough.
By the way Peter, thanks for the offer of identifying coins for us.

hi charles, my ref books to id roman coins is david r sears he s wrote three vol from 280 bc to ad 285 vol 4 is still being written, do you mean the different names of coins like gold aureus, gold quinarius, silvercistophorus silver denarius, silver quinarius,  serstursus, dupondius, copper as,  brass as, brass semi s, copper quadrans, copper uncia,   alexandrian coinage billiontetradracham, bronze hemidrachm, anothr 10 different types, then yougo on to coinsby trajan issue todivus nerva, issue to dead father deceased sister, then restored coinage of trajan issued ad 107,that makes 24 different types of coins, approx, if you wanted every coin with  all the different reverses  that would come to 285 coins of trajan plus any new undiscovered since 2002 when this volumn was written hope this helps john
