Title: A few interesting finds on my new permission
Post by: BeachHunter101 on February 03, 2022, 05:21:14 PM
Hello all, hope you're all well.

Some finds on my new permission - looks very promising ;D

An unusual pin? cannot find one similar
What i'm presuming is a medieval 13th c? matrix seal but cannot read what it says.
A medieval enamel mount? with decoration
pilgrims ampulla cannot make the decoration out - maybe a flower? also has some decoration on the back.
A medieval pot leg?
A large disk of lead with an iron nail/pin
a Small copper disk? with what looks to be a hammered top (looks like a wizard hat  ::))

Also found a medieval belt mount in the same field(not pictured)

Thanks!

Some nice finds there.

The large disc with the lettering appears to say something like MLLER & Co or MILNER & Co, and at the bottom possibly BARRY or DAIRY. Not medieval but does appear to be a seal or stamp of some sort.

Where roughly did you find it? (nearest town if possible)

Thank you Doc, I found it in the Bridgend area. Roughly how old do you think the seal is? Thanks again  :)

Great finds - thanks for posting. Is that a letter above the flower motif on the ampulla. If it is the letter can sometime suggest which church/cathedral the pilgrimage was to/from.

Well done
Neil
