Title: I.D. help please
Post by: N8 on September 07, 2020, 02:05:51 PM
Hi

I found these items on the latest Druid's dig and was wondering if anyone has seen anything like the lead face object?
Thanks for looking

Not myself - although given the age of the other items you found, it probably isn't that old.

Hi Probono

That's just my luck sadly.
There was a couple of hammered and an old token found in the field I found the face, but the other stuff was mostly found in another field. Its probably worthless but I really like it and will put it on show somewhere visible.

With regards to the ring next to it, its possibly made from tin with WFC 1925 then a sideways number and 565 after that. It fits on my fat little finger, too large for a pigeon ring so I was also hoping someone may have an idea what it was for?

Cheers

Are you sure the ring is too big for a pigeon? Maybe pigeons were bigger in 1925? Pigeon organisations are often called Flying Clubs.

So WFC could well be W... Flying Club. I don't know if any of these existed, but the W could be for Wales, Worcester, Warwickshire, Warrington etc

Nice thinking there Doc, thanks for the reply. I know a pigeon fancier so I'll ask his thoughts, but I thought it is a bit big especially compared to modern ones ive found
