Hi All, does anyone have a detailed book on Lizzy issues? Apart from Spink? All I want to know is, how many different listings are there for the shilling first issue? Spink has two listings. I am looking to see the different types of reverse legends. Thanks, Jon.

You could look at any edition of North - English Hammered Coinage - aside from that I'm sure there are some BNJ or RNS volumes that would cover things.

I forgot I had a North book, but that is even more brief than Spink.

I have attached some pics of Lizzy Shillings First Issue.

If you look between 9 and 12 o'clock on the reverse, where it reads MMEV, you will see there are clear differences -  NOTE dots and colons,

Shilling 1 - "M·MEV:" (dot and colon)
Shilling 2 - "M·MEVM" (dot only and last letter M)
Shilling 3 - "M:MEVM" (colon only and last letter M)
Shilling 4 - "M·MEVM·" (dot and last letter M and dot)

I bet if I looked a bit more there could be more variants?

An interesting question, but seems to be something that has been given little consideration.

A search of images online comes up with all these:

M.MEVM
M.MEV.
.MEVM
M:MEVM
M:MEV.
EM.MEV.
M:MEV:

I've no doubt that someone has done some research on these - although tbh it is only when you get to Charles I coins that you get the die variants - at least mentioned.

For the colon types, they are really a contraction mark, with a dot below.

I've also had a look again at my coin books - Schneider is all gold, Stewartby - at least the one I have, finishes in 1551 (but isn't really as detailed as you need), and Brooker is only Charles.

Can't find anything obvious online - sounds like a bit of an MA project....
