These coins were struck with a roller press - and often shifted between 'strikes'. some of the earlier strikings survive in areas where the pressure wasn't as high in the later strike or where there was an uneven flan. Nice find. Never found a Charlie shilling. Title: Re: the 2 cs in charlie Post by: Greg on August 21, 2020, 08:35:30 AM What bests me with Doc and Probono replies, the “c” is very prominent, why is there no sign of the other letters being double struck, to some extent I can see the uneven flan theory but for a single letter to come through it must of been a very high spot.
What and when was the roller press introduced, so these are not really hammered coins? |
