He was, the last I heard but that’s prob. last year.

I assume you mean the National Museum of Wales.

My understanding is that he is training a replacement before moving on.
Don’t think things will change much, not enough resources.

He’ll take a bit of replacing. Heck of a nice fella, very knowledgable and has been doing a dammed good job.

He literally went out of his way to pick up some things I had to record. Took them away, recorded them and brought them back next time he was down my way.

If he has moved onto another job we’ve lost a good man.

Val, I’ve got no problem with Mark and I agree with your remarks.
It’s the system that is a shambles, they never envisaged the way it would take off and have been overwhelmed by the quantities involved and now cannot cope.

He has changed jobs - at least to some extent - I'm pretty sure that his new job is still at the museum.

I know he is training a replacement - but I also know that he is also trying to still turn up to club meetings, and then get his replacement to record the information.

He was at Cardiff Scan Club last month for instance.

Mark is still on same phone and email, but now only works Friday and Monday, which are the ONLY days you will get hold of him.  I collected a few bits from him last week.  He is training another FLO.  Hope this helps.  Cheers.  Tom

Very knowledgeable just a really nice guy to know.

The new chap is called George - although I can't remember if he is just the numismatist at the museum or he's the new 'FLO'. I see them both at Cardiff Archs, every other Thursday,

It could be - sometimes the pub is involved after the meeting :)

It is Cardiff Archaeological Society - it's been going for at least 55 years. Meetings are every other Thursday at the University main building (Cardiff!) - I've been going, off and on with my parents for about 40 years now. They have lectures about various archaeological stuff - last weeks was about Llangorse Crannog, first one of this season was given by Andrew Birley about the latest finds from Vindolanda. Like all societies some talks are great some not so, but you can often find out about new work long before it appears in print which is good - last year for instance there was a talk about the work on 5 mile lane. They used to do excavations when the majority of members were younger and quite often sponsor geophys work.

In the summer there are evening (and sometimes weekend day trips) - we had a tour round Plas Machen last year, and one of their trips was to the hill forts of Dorset.

I often bump into Mark there as he comes along as part of SHARE - I can't remember what that stands for, but its to do with the University Archaeology Degree.

There is some good news on the PAS front.
Mark Lodwick is now doing 2 days a week during the handover.
Adam Gwilt in now looking after non treasure items.
The coin expert is now Alastair and Marks replacement George is sorting out recording.
If you need to talk to Adam Gwilt his number is 02920573374.
Hopefully items will now get recorded and returned faster.
