Title: Possible old artefact with enamel? and a nice George III bullhead sixpence Post by: BeachHunter101 on May 31, 2019, 08:30:29 PM Found today, the artefact looks like it has a cross on one side and some strange pattern on the other. It looks like some of what I presume is enamel is missing. It reminds me of a medieval horse pendant but the enamel looks different on them. I did clean it a little but the edges are very brittle and I really don't want to damage it. Also on one side I think i can see the words HIT ??? ::) maybe it's just my eyes ;D

No sign of any attachments which makes wonder if it’s a broken off bit. Looks to be Medieval but ?
The sixpence is very nice. George 3rd silvers very often come up looking like that. I was lucky to find one in near unused condition. Makes you wonder what, if anything, was added to the silver to make it more durable. I wouldn't be surprised if it is medieval because where I found it other medieval items have been found close by. When it came out of the ground it looked like it has been there a long time - Yes the sixpence is lovely and a first for me, I bet when you found it it was gleaming ;D

Yes at least 2 of them came out gleaming. Found another in a chunk of black stuff off the beach and even that one, although very worn, came out looking like silver.
I had a run on sixpences a few years back. George’s were the oldest but got a collection from him onwards. Virtually every trip a winner. Used to be like that with half-crowns. Looks similar to something from the Staffordshire hoard but less shiny!
