Title: Roman coin i.d Post by: N8 on April 25, 2019, 06:55:12 PM Hi,
Can anyone help me i.d. The below Roman coin I found on the weekend? It's a bit worn but there is a C visible on one side if that helps, placed it next to a 1963 one penny for size comparison Thanks for looking (http://) Title: Re: Roman coin i.d Post by: The Doc on April 25, 2019, 07:50:01 PM Nice find.
Looks like a female hairstyle. Possibly a Dupondius of Faustina? Title: Re: Roman coin i.d Post by: N8 on April 26, 2019, 06:58:59 PM Hi Doc,
Thanks for the help, now you've said it I can see the hair on the one side Cheers Title: Re: Roman coin i.d Post by: probono on April 27, 2019, 10:48:01 PM Agree with The Doc - although at first - as I looked at the first, reverse image - it took me a while to orientate it.
Given the size, it could be an As or a dupondias - the metal for these is the only really distinguishing feature - and I've even had some very tight flanned sestertii. Could also be Lucilla (daughter of Faustina) and less likely Crispina (Faustina's daughter in law) - by Faustina - that's Faustina Junior (wife of Marcus Aurelius), not Faustina senior (her mother) |
