Very Nice coin! The Doc will ID it I am sure but a quick guess is William I (The Conqueror)!

Looks like him :)

I'm sure with a bit of effort the moneyer and mint can be sorted too, as the cut is along the right direction (you have the end of the mint and the start of the moneyer showing)

Think I've narrowed it down to;
William I AR penny, two sceptres type, Chichester mint, moneyer Brunman. 1072-1074 AD, 1.24 gr. +PILLLEM REX ANGLO, crowned bust facing, sceptre patté to left, sceptre boutonné to right / BRIINMIIN ON IICC, cross fleury over saltire, annulet in centre. S. 1253; N. 844. BMC Type IV.

 ;D

Great find

You're right with the type (BMC IV, N.844), but I believe the moneyer is Blacsunu and the Mint London. I can see BLA.......LVN. Full inscription would be BLACSVNV ON LVN.

What a fantastic bit of history.

In my Copy of North, English Hammered Coinage, the two sceptres type is dated 1074-77 and the moneyer is given as Blagsun - but I've got the 1963 edition, so it's probably changed a bit since then!

Nice find, was that off the rally near Thornbury?

Yes Dale, found nothing all morning in the main fields then went in the lone field in the afternoon and it was my first decent signal, stayed there all afternoon 😁

Nice, I live a few miles away from the dig and detected the area for over 10 years plus my family for over 30 years and that's the earliest hammered iv seen in all that time, rare for the area. well done

You've probably heard this before but it was a bit of a 'scratchy' signal, mid 40 on my AT Pro which is thin, very nearly didn't dig it but glad i did, when it came out it was folded up (you can see the line) but a soak in warm water and a gentle press straightned it out nicely

In the 1994 North, the moneyer at London is listed as Blacsun. There is also a moneyer Blagsune at Thetford.

The Early Medieval Corpus at the Fitzwilliam has it as Blacsunu, with this spelling (as BLACSVNV) illustrated on a coin recorded there:

I don't know if these are all the same person?
