Title: Not much to go on.
Post by: Greg on March 04, 2019, 08:41:57 PM
Two hammered coins from last week. obverse on both more or less smooth, reverse some detail time for the experts.

If I manage to attach the photo, my laptop will have worked where my ipad failed.

Tried  for 2 hours to post with my laptop instead of my Ipad, file size was down to 190K and tried in JPG and GIF, sorry enough.

Interesting, just tried posting an image that I know is small enough and it won't load......

And my reply has disappeared....

Hi Greg

Sorry about delay. Busy, busy day. Just catching up.  I downloaded your pic and resized it, twice. last one down to 85 KB and now Im getting the same. The whole lot disappears and i get the same message. Either run out of time or file too large.
Neither is right, at 85 kb it should have downloaded, even if you couldnt see anything.
Looks like theres a real problem somewhere. Ill send Geoff a message and see if we get any responce.

Message sent 9.25pm

Hopefully Neil will be on here soon - maybe we've run out of space?

Greg, as far as I can remember the long cross, I think I’ve just seen another. ID’d as Edward 1st.

Thanks Val, hope they sort the photo problem out soon, sounds like there are others getting very frustrated.

Well done Greg. At last  ;D

I’m sure either The Doc or Probono will be able to have a shot at them for you.

I like having a stab at the ID so I’ll go for Edward 1st and Richard 2nd. Don’t take that as gospel, I’m usualy wrong  ::)

Thanks Val for all your help. I failed after a number of tries with my iPad (since I have retired it’s my go to machine, easy to use when sitting about). I have a fairly new laptop with windows 10 installed, find it harder to use compared to earlier versions, but I am getting there, used a program called 3D paint that came with the machine and after messing about managed to save as low quality and change format (file extension).
Think I could do it again, I have a Roman I found last month that is now with the FLO I will try to post later.
Much appreciated.

Hi Greg, I’m sure there are easier ways of doing things, IF we only knew.
Hubby and I like to think we do quite well for our age but we often get really confused.  :-\
I’ve banned him from trying to buy ‘on line’ he’s had to re-set his pass-word that many times, I can’t keep up with him and he thinks he’s a tech geek  ;D
Hope someone will confirm the ID of your coins.

The one on the right is probably York mint. The one on the left is a 'Civitas' rather than a 'Villa' coin - both are long cross - the right hand one could be from Edward III onward, the left hand one seems to have more lombardic writing (fancy) so is 15th century.

Hard to tell beyond that - would have to see some detail on the obverse really to nail it down further.

Thanks Probono, at least I have a better idea. But honestly there is very little if any detail that I can see on the obverse sides.
I will get my laptop out tomorrow and try to upload the other side.

Not a good day today, trying to take decent photos of the obverse sides of the hammered coins working in my garage workshop, I somehow dropped one and after a few hours searching by moving stuff around and using a torch failed to find it, not to worry it will turn up sometime in the future,
Anyway this is the obverse of the right hand coin Edward III on by Probono. as I stated very little detail, so the best of luck.

That sounds familiar Greg. Hubby flies model aircraft and is often muck8ng around in his work shop. A few times, as you can imagine, when messing with the miniature screws, he’s dropped one. Heck of a job to find but he has 2 tools that help. My pin pointer and a magnet.
There’s an idea for you, the pin pointer  ;D

Yes Val, it’s happened many many times, the problem is being a man I am not the best at putting things back after I use them, so there are bits and tools everywhere until I decide to have a blitz and clean up, I often drop small screws so the pinpointer will not work, but thanks for the advice. The annoying thing is it was the second time I dropped it, never learn and it’s only down hill from now on.
