Title: Last detecting trip
Post by: Stanley on January 06, 2019, 10:36:04 AM
I tookmy detector up to Hull and had a sneaky look around on the docks. Straightaway I got a fantastic signal in the eighties right under my feet.. It looked like a large piece of steel. With some difficulty I dragged it to the car to ID it as the light was fading but not a minute later some angry bloke was tapping on the car window. He told me that the steel was, in fact, MV Pride of Rotterdam and he needed it back so he could sail it to Holland. Well, frankly, I thought that was a bit selfish.

Anyhow, as compensation I got a trip on the ship...and found nothing at all in Amsterdam, not even a dropped coin while freezing to death outside the souvenir shops.

I have to get back out on the fields...in fact, I'm off now

Bye

Do you go to Hull often? My sister lived there for 20 years - quite like the place - but sadly it's not on the way to anywhere.....

Hello Probono, alas I don't get up to that area as much as I would like. It was painful travelling up the M18 and seeing all the stubble/ploughed fields too.
The mention of the 'Pride of Rotterdam' was a joke that, unfortunately, fell flat. I was on a mini-cruise this weekend instead of detecting. I did try some eyes-only detecting around Amsterdam and other places but it was a total loss.

In other news, I tried for a permission near J14 of the M5 on a farm that has many old footpaths. It was a no-go as the farmers around there all rent their land to a club for detecting. I shall have to stick to Wales for now, though I will be knocking on doors at two target farms in Wiltshire when I can get over there with work.

Happy digging
