Post by: rogervernon on December 27, 2018, 02:38:20 PM
Hi all, not been out in ages or on hear much, but as title says hoping for an id on this coin, it is roughly same size as the half crown in image.
today was my first day out in ages and was lucky enough to get a blasting signal on the old Deus, a reading of 86 on fast programme.
anyway hoping for id, cheers guys and gals.

Nicely found. It’s a groat (4 pence ) but I have no idea on age or mint.
Probono wil probably tell you, if he looks in later. 👍

Looks like a shilling to me Barry, 2nd issue  1560- 1561 mm is a cross crosslet but I've been known to be wrong ::) ::). Why weren't you rolling the barrel yesterday ?

Didn’t take the size into account. At that size it prob. is a shilling. I’ve still got a long way to go before I’m any good with coins.
Wouldn’t mind finding one of those myself. It’s amazing it hasn’t been chopped up by a plough.

Yup shilling - Lizzy - as stated by someone else - lovely coins to find :)

Just arranged to go detecting on Sunday - wish me luck :) - found very little there so far, but there's some ridge and furrow I haven't looked at yet :)

Best of luck with the ridge a furrow. Get your eye patch ready, for when you finish and you’re walking like a drunken sailor. (One foot up, the other one down.)

Fingers crossed, hope you get some goodies 👍

Thanks :) - taking a book which mentions the roman road at the end of their parkland, plus some home made sloe gin as a gift too for the landowner. There's got to be something there somewhere.
