Title: Edward III Groat
Post by: Smoo on November 07, 2018, 10:38:16 AM
Hi all, I found this on Monday, on the same farm (different field) as one about 2yrs ago. This is a more complete coin I think. I've not been able to do much detecting on the farm this year, because of the weather conditions, so it was a nice find. I've been doing Prestatyn and Talacre beaches, without much of interest, unless your into WW2 bullets and shrapnel. Keep on swinging.

Nice one - looks to be Series C (1st cross, plus lombardic M).

I always like these coins - pity all of mine are in the museum!

It also shows that it is worth going back for another look - is your field ploughed?

Thanks all for your comments, the field is pasture which Cymro and myself tried to detect on about 18mths ago. Unfortunately it was full of heifers that wouldn't give us any peace, so its the first time since then that I've had a go on it. Edward's son the Black Prince had a hunting lodge not far from the farm and it could have been where they had there hunts, the dagger/sword pommel that I found a while back is from the same farm.
