Great selection there Ron. The brooch is/was really nice.  Some of the coins are in great condition.
Must be a real treat detecting on ground like that. Where you over the bridge again.
Sounds like you went home with a bad back again  ;D

And here's my finds for the day!!!  As Ron said, we had a variety of finds from two fields, one ploughed and one pasture.  We knew we would probably find a few Roman coins, and we did, all copper alloys, some with good detail, others grotty.  Can anyone shed some light on the what I think may be a pipe tamper?  Best find of the day was quite a nice George 3rd gold half sovereign.  It was a bit of a surprise from a poor signal, but I did perform the gold dance and shouted a few times to Ron in celebration.  All-in-all a good day, fine weather, lovely countryside, and plenty of signals to keep us busy. And definitely aching limbs and backs after a long day.
Cheers and Happy Digging everyone!!!  Tom.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it did. Well found Tom, lovely Gold Coin.
I’m no expert but that mermaid ? Certainly looks like a pipe tamper. (It could be a car mascot  ::) )
Always a treat to see your finds, well done those men  ;D

Well, you certainly can't complain about that day's bag; can you?

I initially thought mermaid but upon looking closer began to wonder if it depicted Jonah in the belly of the great fish. The figure appears to sport a halo and there is a fishes head by 'his' right elbow. Or am I way off track?

Thanks folks.  I think you may be on the right track Chris.  A mermaid playing a harp? A Goddess playing a harp whilst riding a dolphin.  I can't find one in any of the books, PAS etc. to compare.
Cheers.  Tom

Thanks Paul.  Between holidays, babysitting, helping kids and other family stuff, we've not had a lot of time.  We do like finding all sorts of bits and pieces, especially artefacts and a bit of gold now and again.  Where I found the gold coin, we must have walked over it at least 20 times, but obviously missed it every time.  I can also see that you had a good day on the hammies...very well found.  Me and Ron also like the brooch, it's a first for us.  Probably won't make it out again this weekend, too much stormy weather forecast.  Maybe one day in the week!!!!  Cheers Everyone.
