Title: Any ideas??
Post by: spaceonwhite on September 17, 2018, 07:48:34 PM
Little find from the weekend. It's about the size of a £2 coin. I have absolutely no idea what it was. If anyone has any ideas, let me know!!!

There's a lot of Tudor & Stuart history on the land I found it on.

Hazarding a guess as it is flat and looks as though there was a little gold plating on it, it may be an ornamental piece from perhaps a wooden jewellery box or some such item?

Interesting find. I agree it is probably a mount of some sort, and could be quite early.

Almost has an Anglo-Saxon/Viking period look to it, but hard to be certain from pictures - could be much later.

Sorry, that's called sitting on the fence  ::)

My guess is part of a chatelaine. Very decorative, nice find.

Thanks for the thoughts all. Val, that's a really interesting suggestion and I think you could be right looking at it closer, as there would have been loops running around the edge so it definitely fits with the chatelaine idea  :)

It's hard to see from the pictures but it does look like it has a Tudor rose on the one side, which would fit with other Elizabethan finds found close by.
