Sorry guys it looks I'm  a hogging the finds post at the moment  ;D hopefully more of you will soon be putting your find's up now the harvest is on the way, until then here's my latest. As Well as searing heat the horse flies done some damage to me on this search especially under my arm, it swelled up for a day or so, itched like you know what,all ok now thou.
So the pasture still giving in the form of a corroded Stirrup mount of Viking/Norman date? a reasonable roman brooch, this was 10" deep easy, a pewter spoon bowl with a mark and a handle not connected to bowl, a small leather mount, a nice late medieval very worn silver ring signs of decoration on the shoulders, a stunning cut half (short cross).
The silver celtic Stater came from a different field yesterday on a short search after I went to a "DIG" rally near amesbury, unfortunately I had nothing to show on the day so I called into one of my fields on the way home and glad I did.
Any way getting the water ready for a search again tomorrow will let you know how I do.....Spikey ;)

Right, first things first. Next time you or Mandy go shopping, pop into the Chemist and buy a tube of. ‘ANTHISAN’  it’s an antihistamine and very good. Take it with you and apply a spot as soon as you know you’ve been bitten.
That’s a beautiful condition Stater. Good job you had a field for a quick visit. (Keeping up your record on Rallies  by the sound of it  :P)
Same goes for the cut quarter, is it a Henry or John ?
Shame the bit is missing off the spoon. Looks like there might have been a name on it.
Once again you’ve put us all to shame with some great finds, well done.

Always enjoy seeing your finds from very good permissions...just goes to show the site matters.
I myself have found it just too warm and ground too hard.
Where i have pasture its just too poor to risk making the field look unsightly, its a dust bowl.
I need things to cool down a little and heaven forbid have a little rain.
As to your finds the usual quality shines through and must add picture quality is excellent.
Keep up the good work young fella and if not before will bump into you at Cirencester.

Very nice finds!! I have a quick question, I have been out in hot weather before, but, do you think you have a better chance of finding things when the ground /weather is warm/hot or is normally better in the damp/wetter conditions?

One thing’s for sure, it’s a dambed site easier to dig. I remember this topic being discussed ages ago. Our old friend Geoff explained that signals were magnified by damper conditions. So I s’pose that’s the answer.

You get better depth in wetter damp soil conditions.  ;)
