Title: Hammy Day
Post by: celticspikey on June 15, 2018, 06:59:01 AM
Hi guys I'm still here...Lol ;) No excuses for not having more of an input latley on DW. Val I will catch up with you over weekend. :-*

Anyway, obviously like everyone else its hard to get out in the growing season so finds are affected, that said I managed a few hours on some old pasture yesterday and came up with these 2 little hammys. The short cross cut half is as yet not ID, the Penny however is a very nice Penny of Henry 2nd. Mint Exeter (Roger + ROGER ON EXECE).

The ground was hard, and I had to keep an eye out for cattle in next field as they had access to my field and I did not want to come between mummies and babies for obvious reasons....Hope you enjoy the coins, just getting ready for another session just in case I am on  ROLL..  :D ;)

Very nice and very well found Paul.  Looks like the cut half is also a Henry but I’m not much good with coins.
Look forward to seeing your ‘todays’ finds.

Nice finds - it's nice to have somewhere to detect at this time of the year (and with the ground so dry).

The second cut half - you have the right-hand side of the obverse - looks a fairly similar class to the previous one (row of pellets as bottom of crown), reverse has 'L ON LV' - so definitely London mint, could be Willel perhaps.

Hi Roland. Thanks for ID I wouldn't normally dig as its too dry as you say, have to leave it for a while now..needs a good soaking.

Beat you to it Paul. Do you think Rowland can do anything with my Chinese ?  ;D

Look forward to see what you found. I’m in the same boat as you now. Crops too high, waiting for 2nd cut on silage.
Have you seen the forecast, looks like it’s going to get that good soaking.

Try and put the few bits up tomorrow, been busy this evening 3 X grandchildren on a sleep over. We can really do with a good down poor, I won't be back on the pasture untill the ground has soften up Val.  ;)
