We visited another new permission yesterday for the first time.  What a beautiful area it is with stunning properties dotted around the gentle rolling countryside.  The fields we were offered to start were pastures around the church and vicarage as the fields are full of crops.  We were excited at the prospect of searching this new area and set off into the first field with a good breakfast in our bellies and haste in our step, as if the field would disappear if we didn't get in there quickly.
Plenty of signals and finds started to show, but none were exceptional and mostly scrap.  Old pennies, halfpennies, lead and furniture handles etc seemed to be the bulk of our finds.  We were a bit disappointed as it certainly looked like a 'hammy' area.
We searched these fields thoroughly and until our ageing bones started to ache, then packed it all in and headed for home.
The usual laugh and detecting chat on the way home and a decision as to where we should spend our day out next weekend.

Lots of digging there Tom. Looks like you’ve been in what was once an Orchard. All four of the tags relate to old varieties of apples. (Some of which I remember) shame, all you can get theses days seem to be new varieties and grown somewhere other than here.

Is the lead item a window sash or a sounding weight?

Thanks Val, I think you're correct in saying the field used to be an orchard.  I'd like to know what the weight is Greg as I'm a retired carpenter and I 've never known a sash weight to be so heavy and made from lead.  Cheers.  Tom.
