Title: Have you also noticed?
Post by: Resurgam on March 17, 2018, 10:03:37 PM
Over the years that I have been beach detecting, I have noticed that I sometimes get quite close to some wading birds. On Friday last, once the rain had stopped at lunch time, I put in five hours on Talacre sands. I was detecting away near some shingle when a movement to my right caught my eye and upon looking up I saw a dozen small waders bizily feeding. Not more than three meters away, I was gobsmacked at how close they were to me.

The birds appeared to be completely unphased by my presence, that is util I looked directly at them; upon which they flew away.

                                               Chris :)

Yes Chris, I’ve noticed it many times. In fact I had the same thing happen yesterday with a Chaffinch.
Walking down the lane with the dogs, had to stop for sniff time and heard a ‘cheep cheep’ very close by. Wondering what it was I started checking out the trees around us. Nothing ! Then I spotted it, right at the side of us in the hedge. Strangely it didn’t fly off when I looked and spoke to it.  Pretty little thing, makes you wonder how they survive in this weather.
