Title: Light weight metal detector
Post by: mrstonytrees on March 08, 2018, 10:14:29 AM
Hi folks

Some advice needed. I have recently undergone a series of surgeries that has meant I now find my Fisher DFX way too heavy to handle as I have reduced strength in my right hand side. I am looking for a really light detector. Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for. There are so many on the market that I thought it best to ask here first ffor some general pointers.

Thanks all

Helena

the Teknetics Eurotek Pro is a very lightweight machine performs similarly to a Garrett ace 250

Sorry to hear you’ve been going through the mill. Hope you’re recovered/recovering nicely.
I had a Deus, the ultimate in light weight and easy to use. Big bucks though.
Hope you find something to suit. Best of luck.

Hi Helena. Two things come to mind, how much do you want yo spend and do you want to search beaches or mainly inland....  ;)

Hi,I use the fisher f44 with their 11” stock coil and I find it very light and balanced.I sometimes detect for 6 hours non stop,no problem...

With all due respect Andre, looking at your profile you are of an age that 6 hrs Detecting would not be a problem, with most detectors regardless of it weight, please correct me if you have some disability.
Helena has undergone surgery and requires a lighter detector, we have a club member that once owned an e-trac and due to medical conditions could only use it for about an hour, he has replaced it with a Deus and can now manage about 2 to 3 hours, although digging is still a major problem.
Celtic asks a good questions about budget and use, but also should it be a simple or complicated machine.
Finally Dave says his machine is deep, from experience and the laws of physics, there can be very little difference between all VLF machines as they all use the same technology, they can have better discrimination, recovery speed, identification and ground balance but very little on depth.
Put the shields up Scotty.

No,I’m alright, thank you.My machine is just over a 1 kg and it depends how deep you want to go.i’ve retrieved stuff at about 10” and that’s enough for me,plus if you have a disability you don’t want to dig to China.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all of your valuable feedback and well wishes and I am now the proud owner of a Deus! I've got a very long road to recovery and the future is uncertain at this point, but at least I'll be able to continue with my hobby, as limited as it will be. Thanks again everyone, much appreciated

Regards

Helena

PS

Anyone got a good program for a Deus?  😀

Till you get more used to it ( and after you’ve had a good mess around). Stick to the pre-sets.
The only thing I ever altered was the iron volume. The pre sets work fine and it’s so much easier to just switch on and go. ;)

Best of luck with recovery. I’ve taken a step backwards. Done too much too soon and now have tendonitis, painful ! Be warned  ::) don’t overdue things.

The factory basic settings have served me well over the last 8 years.
Especially GMP 2 and Deus Fast 3 ones.
Having said that I now use V4.1 set up and the new Deep program is amasing.
Can I suggest that as a Deus owner you join Gary`s Metal Detecting Forum for lots of help from other Deus owners and the master Gary.
This week using I used Deep settings on a field littered with coke from old steam engine days and avoided digging coke, but in the soil underneath the coke came this Henry III short cross cut half.

Give them a try.Jerry.

Thanks Val and Jerry, I'll stick to the basics and hopefully see you at a DW rally soon.

Be warned  ::) don’t overdue things.

Oh wise one! Why is it that some of us never really follow your advice?  Just got back from seven hours swinging the Safari and chasing the tides, pluss an hours drive each way, and flowed out of the car like a wobbly rag doll. :(

I thought it wasn't going to be too bad, because I was using an EasySwing bungee but the bungee overstretched and gave up the ghost long before I did. Should have taken the Quest Q40, I suppose!

Now where did I put those pain killers?  ::)

                                     Chris  ;)

Chris, it’s obviously a case of ‘Do as I say, not as I do’.  So not so wise after all  ::) :-[
