Title: Penny's and Pigs
Post by: roughneck on January 07, 2018, 07:31:03 PM
Me and Ron braved the cold, biting wind today to search some pastures on a pig farm.  It was our second visit to this farm which produced fifty two coins on our first visit.  We were welcomed by the farmer on arrival and headed for some fields which looked like they had been worked over the centuries.  Once again we found lots of penny's and halfpenny's going back to George 2nd.  Twenty eight coins in total, lots of buttons, an RAF cap badge and lots of scrap.  We were expecting to possibly find a hammy or two because of the local history, but not a sniff!!!  Made us wonder why not?  Perhaps they are deeper than the penny's because all the coins we found today were between six and nine inches deep.
After feeding the nearest pigs with our left over sandwiches we headed back to the farm and gave the farmer a fistful of coins for his collection.  He loved having them and said he shows all the finds to visitors and holidaymakers at his B & B.
To end the story we arrived home to my house and started unloading my gear.  We still had the engine running on Rons car when the door closed and we heard the central locking click.  On XXXX said Ron, 'I've not got a spare key'.  Panic set in as the engine was running, the lights were on, and we were locked out.
A quick call to the RAC set the ball in motion.  In the meantime, Ron phoned his mechanic grandson who duly arrived with a length of packing case plastic and opened the car like a professional locksmith.  Job done, panic over, so RAC cancelled and Ron went home happy.
Cheers and Happy Digging Everyone!!!  Tom.
